| | We've been having some crazy weather around here the last couple of days. It's been hot and really humid, and every afternoon, huge storms have been blowing up. Yesterday, some really crazy ones came through Lansing, and they did some pretty nasty damage in certain spots of town. I stumbled upon a bunch of the big tree damage while taking a bike ride this afternoon near Moores Park, and I snapped a few quick pictures.
This is a big tree in Moores Park right next to the tennis courts. The stump that's left is about 3 or 4 feet tall.

This is also in Moores Park, near the pool. The trunk of the tree on the ground had to be at least 2 1/2 feet in diameter.
This is the corner of Delevan and Barnes. This tree was blocking almost the entire road.
This is on Sparrow, less than a block away from the basketball courts I played on at recess in elementary school. This huge piece of a tree had fallen right the roof of a Jeep Commander. It doesn't look too bad from this fuzzy picture, but it was damaged pretty badly.
The river trail was completely flooded by the Eckert Power Station across from Moores Park. This is probably about the highest I've ever seen the river through here.
I saw this tree in riverfront park next to the Shiawassee St. bridge on the ride back to my apartment.
And it continues--while I was typing up this entry, we got nailed with another crazy storm with 70 mph winds and possible tornadoes. The sirens were going off all over town and the power flickered off for a bit too. And as quickly as it came, it's gone--I can see sunny sky off to the north west from my window. |
